Final Words

Community service, voting, and even seemingly insignificant small acts can have an everlasting effect on society. President Barack Obama famously said at a campaign speech in Virginia, “One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a
city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world.” It takes one person to have an idea for change and let their opinions and ideas be known. Not everyone will be accepting, but history has proven that when we set our mind to something and stand up for what we believe we can make a change, whether in a small community, or an entire nation. The key to creating a better nation is community. Instead of thinking as the nation as a large daunting mass of people, it needs to be thought of just as a small community. Whenever someone provides a service or assists those in their individual communities a small portion of the nation is changed. When everyone contributes to this effect, more and more of the nation can be covered by an overwhelming amount of transformation. If everyone in the United States was to spend one hour a week fixing their community by mowing lawns, rebuilding homes, providing care to the sick and homeless we would see each other in a new light. Rather than thinking of each other as a competitor in the game of life, we would think of each other as neighbors that we could lean upon in times of need. This all starts with one voice, which is heard by ten people, who spread the word on to a hundred people, and to a thousand. This can have a ripple effect and continue throughout the entire nation to create better society and community for all.
